The first sod has been turned and construction is underway on the new Urangan Point State School’s $11.3 million multi-purpose hall.

The Member for Hervey Bay, Adrian Tantari MP and the school Principal, Matt Winter, along with school leaders Evelyn Rich and Omar Salim, were on hand to turn the sod on this exciting new multi-purpose hall.

Mr Tantari, said “This new multi-purpose hall will not only become a focal point for the school, but for the greater local community as a whole.

“When the hall is complete, it will be available for many community and school activities in the years to come, and that’s a massive outcome for this part of Urangan and for Hervey Bay at large.

“This new facility will have various benefits for our students, our teachers and our local community and will significantly improve the outcomes and experiences of our students”, said Mr Tantari.

The new Hall is being delivered as part of the Queensland Government’s Great Schools Great Future commitment to boost education infrastructure investment across Queensland. In addition to providing a covered space, it will be large enough to hold full school assemblies and events, the impressive new multi-purpose facility will include:

  • a sports court and amenities
  • a kiosk,
  • a multi-purpose room and office
  • additional storage rooms
  • a formalised car park

These brand-new amenities will give students greater opportunities to participate in expanded activities, such as creative arts and sports.

The UPSS Principal, Mr Matt Winter said, “We are committed to providing an educational experience that goes beyond the classroom. The new building will not only serve as a venue for various sports and recreational activities but also as a hub for cultural events, performances, and community gatherings”.

“The hall will be a place where students can discover and pursue their passions, talents, and interests, allowing them to thrive in all aspects of their education”, said Mr Winter.

The new hall is scheduled to be completed by Term 2 in 2024.
