STARLIGHT Children’s Foundation is excited to announce its sixth annual Super Swim Challenge, running through February.
Hervey Bay locals are joining the cause, hoping to make a difference by completing swim laps and raising funds to support the Foundation’s mission.
This year, the goal is to raise $5 million to bring joy to over 128,000 sick children in hospital.
By participating in the swim challenge, whether in a backyard pool, at an aquatic centre, or even at the beach or a lake, swimmers will help fund Starlight’s crucial in-hospital services, including Captain Starlight and Starlight Express Rooms, which provide a fun and supportive environment for kids in hospitals nationwide.
Our Publisher Malcolm Quinn is set to swim 20 kilometres in February to contribute to this important cause.
Malcolm’s decision to take part is deeply personal.
He shared, “When I was a child, I struggled with asthma and spent a lot of time in the hospital. It was an isolating experience, especially back then when my mum couldn’t stay overnight with me.
I understand how challenging it can be for both the kids and their families.”
Malcolm’s heartfelt connection to the Starlight Foundation stems from its commitment to supporting sick children.
“The work Starlight does is amazing, and I’m proud to support them,” he said.
“We’ve all felt isolated during tough times, but for children battling illness, this is their reality every day.”
“Swimming was a big part of my recovery, and I swam competitively for many years. I love swimming, and it’s not hard work for me to take part in this challenge.”
Malcolm has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community, including incredibly generous donations of $1,500 from both Bob’s Tyres and The Beach House Hotel.
