THE HERVEY Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is excited to announce the community choice winner of this year’s Social Innovators Pitch Night: The Self in Me Project, pitched by Gretchen Pedral from IG Community & Health Partners.

This initiative aims to address mental health issues, loneliness, and social isolation among children and young people in the Fraser Coast region.

Gretchen shared her excitement about the project’s upcoming events, which include a soccer tournament, photography contests, stand-up comedy shows, a battle of the bands, and much more.

These events, set to take place during the 2025 school holidays, will provide young people with the opportunity to connect with local sporting and arts groups, helping them to develop their resilience, self-confidence, and sense of community.

“This funding will be incredibly impactful for Fraser Coast children and young adults,” Gretchen said.

“Many of our young residents don’t have the financial capacity to join clubs, sporting teams, or purchase art supplies.

“By offering these events, we can provide a space where they can express themselves, develop new skills, and build lasting connections with their peers.”

The first events are set to run after Term 1, 2025, at Maryborough West Football Club and will be held at the West Football Stadium.

IGHCP has partnered with the Maryborough Amateur Basketball Club for Terms 3 and 4.

These locations will serve as hubs for young people to gather, participate, and grow through these exciting activities.

For those eager to follow The Self in Me Project’s journey, updates and information about upcoming events can be found on their Facebook page.

HBNC congratulates Gretchen and the team at IG Community & Health Partners on their innovative project and looks forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the local community.
