THE HERVEY Bay RSL Seagulls Rugby League Club is kicking goals already in 2024 with the Hervey Bay RSL back on board as their major Platinum sponsor for the 2024 season.
President Joey Witteman said the RSL’s continued support is invaluable to the Seagulls with this year’s sponsorship including a $19,000 Community Grant, 500 water bottles for the juniors, vouchers and lots of in-kind support.
“The sponsorship Seagulls receives is huge; it helps us limit costing in our registration fees to our youth, especially with our ground upkeep and our field maintenance where we don’t see that cost getting added,” Joey said.
The mission of grass roots rugby league clubs in Queensland is to bring like-minded players together, enrich their lives and play the sport they love in a safe and encouraging environment.
Joey said the RSL grant combined with a dedicated Seagulls committee and coaching community, will do just that for about 350 juniors and 80 seniors who have signed up this year.
“I believe juniors playing sport helps keep them fit and healthy, and it’s also a great way for them to make friends,” Joey said.
International players will also have the RSL-Sponsored PULSE Program to look forward to this year with a grant of $3000 to cover costs of uniforms and performance technology.
Coordinator Steve Mason said the development program specifically targets the top international players at Seagulls.
Steve said the retention rate of players in Rugby League on the Fraser Coast drops off dramatically between the ages of 13 and 16.
There is a hope that PULSE will create a pathway for junior players to aspire to be part of something that encourages them to continue with the sport.
Especially with the Seagulls close links with Dolphins, Broncos and Storm Rugby League Clubs.
“Our objective is to equip them with a skill set that will have them wanting to continue so they can showcase the skills they have and continue to enjoy success in their lives and in our great game,” Steve said.
