An event run by the disability community, for the disability community, will be held this month at Seafront Oval with some fantastic prizes on offer.
The Hervey Bay RSL is a proud sponsor of the event with $2000 in vouchers and prizes donated though the club’s Community Grants Program.
FestABLE spokeswoman Sarah Reed said last year’s event attracted a 3000-strong crowd and was live streamed to an additional 800.
This year’s FestABLE on Thursday, September 28 is set to top that number.
“With thanks to the Hervey Bay RSL Community Grants Program and other community stakeholders, this is a great chance to showcase all the wonderful opportunities that people with a disability and their families have in this area,” Sarah said.
“There will be food vans, entertainment... it’s going to be huge.”
Sarah said hosting the inaugural FestABLE at Seafront Oval drew in a crowd last year because it’s a safe space with plenty of disability friendly access and pathways to and from the event.
“It also provided an opportunity for people with a disability and their families to connect with and find out about what local service providers they can access.
“The vision is not for just one afternoon, once a year, rather throughout the year, it creates roles for people with disabilities to build their capacity.”
There will be 80 different stall holders on the day, each charged with the task of providing an interactive experience for their guests.
“They can’t just bring a tent and a desk; they need to provide a role for people to participate in, to create value and thinking.
“We will also have a market stall area, all handmade goods by local NDIS recipients, which will also be amazing.
“The Hervey Bay RSL Club donated $1000 in RSL vouchers and $1000 in raffle prizes, which is an enormous help.”
Guests will have the chance to win one of 10, $100 RSL gift cards or prizes like sunset cruises, spa vouchers and scenic flights.
Cr. Jade Wellings also donated $500 from here discretionary fund for the big finale of the event, with a special fire twirling act.
Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor George Seymour will be in attendance to draw the raffles.
The event will be held from 2pm to 7pm. Entry is free.
