Residents invited to shape future of local events

RESIDENTS and businesses across the Fraser Coast are being encouraged to have their say on the future of local events as the Fraser Coast Regional Council continues to develop its Regional Events Strategy.

Councillor Sara Diana Faraj highlighted the importance of events in fostering community connections, celebrating culture, and stimulating economic growth.

“Events connect us – they showcase our region’s diversity, create shared experiences, and bring visitors to the Fraser Coast,” Cr Faraj said.

“With world-class natural areas and unique venues, the Fraser Coast has the perfect backdrop for outstanding events.

When visitors come here for events, they spend money at our local businesses, stay in our accommodation, and help create local jobs.”

The Council is actively seeking community feedback to better understand which events residents value most and what they would like to see more of in the region.

Cr Lachlan Cosgrove emphasised the Council’s commitment to fostering an event-friendly environment that benefits both tourism and the local economy.

“We’re seeking input from residents, businesses, and event organisers to help shape the future of the events landscape,” Cr Cosgrove said.

“What events do you love? What would you like to see more of? What makes an event great? Where should events be held?

“We also want to understand the role the community believes Council should play in events.”

To ensure everyone has a voice, residents can participate by completing a short survey available on the Council’s Engagement Hub website at https://frasercoast.engagementhub.com.au/events-2025

The survey will remain open until 24 March.

In addition to the public consultation, the Council will also engage directly with event organisers to gain insights into the current state of the local event industry.

“This engagement will help refine our approach for the next two years while we work towards developing a more comprehensive, long-term strategy for 2026,” Cr Faraj said.

The Council encourages all community members to share their thoughts and help shape a vibrant and dynamic event culture on the Fraser Coast.
