THE FRASER Coast Red Dragons recently celebrated a victory by winning the inaugural Perpetual Trophy at the Pumicestone Dragon Boat Festival held on Bribie Island in September 2024.
Competing against some of Queensland’s biggest and best clubs—including Tweed Heads and Marooychore.
The small but mighty team of over 200 competitors brought home the trophy, showcasing their strength, teamwork, and resilience.
They are not a big, flashy club with fancy equipment.
A humble group, operating from the trunk of a car to store their paddles and safety gear.
They train in their beloved dragon boat out the front of Scarness Beach. Making the most of an open patch of ground next to the caravan park.
“We might not have all the bells and whistles, but what we do have is heart, dedication, and a passion for the sport,” said member Sharon Piert.
“Our members come from all walks of life, from veterans, breast cancer survivors, and people of all ages who enjoy paddling as a way to stay fit and have fun.”
“Whether you’re looking to build strength, meet new people, or just try something different, you’ll be welcomed with open arms.”
“Think dragon boating might be for you? The best way to find out is to come along to one of our Come and Try sessions on Sunday mornings.”
“It’s completely free, and no experience is necessary. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a complete beginner, we will guide you through the basics and give you a taste of what it’s like to be out on the water with our amazing crew.”
They meet bright and early, paddles in hand, ready to hit the water and enjoy the fresh air and stunning views.
All you need to bring is a smile, a positive attitude, and a bit of enthusiasm!
