Local mum’s QLD boxing come back

LOCAL Hervey Bay mum, Casey Walters, recently showcased her skills in the QLD Welterweight boxing division on the Gold Coast.

With over a decade of experience under her belt, Casey not only trains herself but has also designed her own boxing program.

“The Welterweight division is known for its explosive power, and this fight was no exception,” Casey said.

Facing off against a taller opponent, Stacia Waimarie, Casey quickly closed the gap, delivering a swift combination of strikes.

“As Waimarie tied up my hands, I broke free just enough to land some clean right hooks. She fought back hard with body shots.”

“She’s a tough opponent, and I could feel the intensity building. I thought I had the upper hand, but she unleashed a flurry of punches, forcing me to defend.”

Though Casey fought back with heavy hooks, Waimarie’s relentless attack left her without an opening to retaliate. The referee stepped in as Waimarie gained momentum, stopping the match in the first round.

Despite this being Casey’s first career loss by a stoppage, she walked away proud, with no regrets.

“It was my first fight at 65kg, and while I wasn’t hurt, I misjudged the pace. I thought she’d tire, but I waited too long, and it cost me the fight.”

“I’m still proud of how I performed. Stacia’s strong amateur background showed, but I held my own. Now I’m back in the gym, chasing the QLD Pro Title at 65kg.”

What made this fight even more special for Casey was having her son, Aiden, and brother, Lyle Long, in her corner.

“My son has been part of my journey since he was five. This time, he stood proudly as my corner man, learning from the judges and officials.”

“Win or lose, I’m still feeding the beast inside me. I was born for this.”
