CREATIVITY is set to shine once again as Fraser Coast Libraries' beloved Design-a-Bookmark competition makes its return.
Residents of all ages are invited to participate and have their artwork displayed and shared with the community.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour highlighted the competition as an exciting chance for budding artists to showcase their talents.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for people to express themselves creatively and see their work professionally printed,” he said.
“Last year’s winning designs featured intrigue, vibrance, joy, and plenty of fungi—what unique creations will emerge this year?”
The competition, which officially opened in March, offers winners not only the recognition of having their bookmarks distributed across Fraser Coast libraries but also a $50 Fraser Coast Gift Card.
A special awards ceremony will be held in May to celebrate the winners.
Winning bookmarks will be professionally printed and made available for free at Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro, Howard, and Burrum Heads libraries.
Councillor Daniel Sanderson noted the growing popularity of the event, with last year’s competition receiving 257 entries across five age categories.
The newly introduced 60+ category proved to be a particular success.
“This year, there’s no set theme, and winners will be chosen based on originality, creativity, and reproducibility,” Cr Sanderson said.
“Residents will also have the chance to vote for their favourite design in the People’s Choice Award, which attracted over 1,000 votes last year.”
The competition is divided into five age categories:
- 6 years and under
- 7 to 11 years
- 12 to 17 years
- 18 to 59 years
- 60+ years
To enter, participants must be members of Fraser Coast Libraries. Membership is free and can be completed online at https://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/libraries-memberships
Entry forms are available at any Fraser Coast Libraries branch or can be downloaded from the Council’s website at https://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/design-bookmark
“We’re thrilled to see this competition continue to grow, celebrating the incredible creativity within our community,” Mayor Seymour added.
Entries close on Thursday, April 17, with winners to be announced in May.
