GUESTS of Kingfisher Bay Resort had their first look at Illumina recently, as Queensland’s first permanent light show was launched on the western shores of the world’s largest sand island.

The highly anticipated debut of Illumina mesmerised resort guests and dignitaries with the first official show open to the public selling out, and bookings for multiple upcoming shows reaching near capacity for the opening weeks.

Immersed seamlessly into the natural K’gari landscape, Illumina uses cutting-edge lighting to take the audience on an incredible journey, bringing the island’s intricate ecosystem to life and celebrating the World Heritage-listed values that make the destination a global tourism icon.

Joining a long list of nature-based tours and activities offered by Kingfisher Bay Resort, Illumina provides guests with a unique perspective of the island.

Cassie Duncan, Senior Ranger at Kingfisher Bay Resort said the first impressions of the show were amazing. “Guests of all ages were blown away by seeing the island’s natural processes in a whole new light. It’s been magical to watch them connect with K’gari in such an innovative way.”

In an evening hosted by Kingfisher Bay Resort, the launch event was attended by key tourism officials from Tourism and Events Queensland and Fraser Coast Tourism and Events, Members of Parliament and Local Government representatives, who all welcomed the new chapter of tourism on the Fraser Coast.

David Hay, General Manager of Kingfisher Bay Resort, added, “For over thirty years our resort has been the gateway to K’gari. Illumina is a big, bold move by our pioneering eco-resort, one that we believe will deepen our guests’ appreciation for the island’s natural wonders. We’re looking forward to letting Illumina take us into the future.”

As the first nighttime experience of its kind for guests immersed in an island escape at Kingfisher Bay Resort, Illumina will show nightly and can now be booked on the Illumina K’gari or Kingfisher Bay Resort websites.
