GATAKERS Artspace in Maryborough welcomed 14,065 locals and tourists in 2024, exploring 36 exhibitions over the past year.
Fraser Coast Regional Council Arts spokesperson Michelle Govers said it was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the gallery, which featured standout exhibitions from emerging artists, artist
in residencies, and interactive activities as part of the beloved Mary Poppins Festival.
“The Fraser Coast boasts a rich and diverse cultural scene, and Council is committed to fostering opportunities for the community to engage with and celebrate the arts, heritage, and cultural diversity.
“In addition, Gatakers Artspace hosted 39 workshops in 2024, offering a range of experiences in painting, printmaking, watercolour, ceramics, glasswork, and professional development.
“Gatakers also welcomed seven school groups, including 20 students from Kasukabe Junior High in Japan, who got the chance to explore the gallery and other iconic Fraser Coast locations.
“We are thrilled about the incredible exhibitions coming to Gatakers Artspace in 2025 and can’t wait to showcase the talent and diversity of our local and interstate artists.”
Gatakers Artspace unveiled four exciting new exhibitions recently, celebrating creative artists and showcasing a rich array of experiences and perspectives.
Cr Govers said the four exhibitions offer something for everyone and shine the spotlight on these fantastic artists.
Storm in a Teacup by Stephen Preston is a quirky mix of abstract, pop, and cubist art that explores the oddities of life, influenced by his love for Australian surf culture.
My Land: Your Land exhibition by Julie McGillivray explores tensions between people and places while warning against growth without forethought.
The Wight Family Creations exhibition highlights the Wight family's passion for diverse art forms, showcasing innovative uses of various materials including hand-built pottery and wood-burning art.
The Abstraction II exhibition by textile artists Rebecca Staunton and Sharon Anderson features large-scale, bold, and colourful abstract textile works that combine techniques such as hand-dyeing, fabric printing, and stitching.
“I hope residents and visitors immerse themselves in the gallery experience, finding inspiration and excitement in our dynamic 2025 exhibition program,” said Cr Govers.
Entry to Gatakers Artspace is free, and everyone is encouraged to check out the new exhibitions while they are on display until 13 April.

Gatakers Artspace is located at 311 Kent Street in Maryborough and is open 9:30am to 3:30pm Tuesdays to Fridays and 9:30am to 2pm weekends including public holidays.
