Dog’s Day Out is coming

FRASER Coast pet lovers, get ready—Dogs Day Out is just around the corner!

The much-anticipated event will take place at Brendan Hansen Park in Maryborough on Sunday, April 13, from 8 a.m. to midday, promising a fun-filled morning for dogs and their owners alike.

This year, the Fraser Coast Regional Council is expanding its desexing rebate to coincide with the event.

Throughout April, all residents—not just Queensland concession card holders—can claim a $100 rebate for desexing their dog or cat.

Councillor Michelle Byrne highlighted the importance of responsible pet ownership and encouraged pet owners to take advantage of the offer.

“Desexing helps reduce unwanted litters, roaming, and aggressive behaviour, as well as lowering the risk of health issues,” she said.

“To secure the rebate, book your pet in with a vet early to avoid missing out.”

Dogs Day Out will feature market stalls with pet products and care information, free microchipping, and complimentary first-time dog registration.

Attendees can also take part in competitions, including best-dressed dog, best dog trick, and an owner-dog look-alike contest.

A variety of local pet businesses will be on-site, offering products and services tailored to pet owners.

There will also be opportunities to speak with animal experts about training, health, and nutrition.

Cr Daniel Sanderson encouraged the community to come along and enjoy the event.

“This is a paw-some day to celebrate our furry friends, socialise our dogs, and learn more about responsible pet ownership,” he said.

“It’s also a chance to connect with other pet owners and create a strong, supportive pet-loving community.”

While Expressions of Interest for local businesses to participate have now closed, residents can still make the most of the day by attending with their pets and enjoying the activities on offer.

The event is free to attend, making it a perfect outing for the whole family.

A Hervey Bay event is also planned for October.
