SERVICES Australia’s Mobile Service Centre, Desert Rose, has been redirected to Hervey Bay following severe flood damage to the local office caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
The mobile centre will remain in the region indefinitely to ensure residents maintain access to essential government services.
Desert Rose is stationed at the Hervey Bay Service Centre, located at 6-10 Hunter Street, Pialba, and operates from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
It provides face-to-face support for Centrelink and Medicare services, along with information about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Department of Veterans’ Affairs programs.
The on-site team is also available to assist those affected by Cyclone Alfred with various support services during the recovery period.
Mobile Service Centres are specially designed 20-tonne trucks operated by Services Australia staff, providing a convenient means for regional and rural Australians to access government services.
Staff aboard Desert Rose will assist with:
- Lodging Centrelink claims
- Registering for Medicare
- Accessing online services
- Providing information on NDIS and Veterans’ Affairs support
Services Australia is encouraging Hervey Bay residents to utilise the Mobile Service Centre while it remains in the region to minimise disruptions to essential services caused by cyclone-related damage.
Residents can receive tailored assistance, including help with emergency payments, lost documents, and financial hardship support.
The Mobile Service Centre is fully equipped with technology to process claims on-site, ensuring that those in need receive timely assistance.
Staff are trained to provide personalised guidance and answer questions about government programs, making it easier for residents to navigate available support options during this challenging time.
For updates on Desert Rose’s location and operating hours, residents are advised to visit the Services Australia website or contact the agency directly.
This deployment reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring communities affected by natural disasters receive necessary support without unnecessary delays.
By providing mobile assistance, Services Australia aims to maintain continuity in service delivery and help residents navigate post-cyclone challenges efficiently.
