Burrum District Men’s Shed making a difference
1 min read

THE BURRUM District Community Men’s Shed in Howard recently received funding through the Fraser Coast Regional Council’s Community Grants 2023-2024 Program, specifically in Rounds 3 and 4.

This grant has enabled the group to install a concrete slab, providing a dedicated space for the storage of their newly acquired Lucas Mill.

The slab forms part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the security and protection of this valuable piece of equipment from the elements.

The Lucas Mill offers the community a sustainable way to recycle fallen logs, which would otherwise be burned or sent to landfill.

By using the mill, members gain valuable experience and contribute to environmental preservation.

The sense of accomplishment from these efforts not only benefits the environment but also fosters camaraderie among members and other local groups.

This shared effort boosts the community’s sense of self-worth and pride.

Recently, the members of the Burrum District Community Men’s Shed collaborated with the Bauple Community Shed, where they milled a significant number of logs.

The timber produced will be divided between the two groups, lowering their overall operating costs by reducing the need to purchase sawn timber.

A portion of the timber from the Lucas Mill was also used to build outdoor seating for the Howard State School P&C, showcasing the tangible benefits of the Shed’s work within the local community.

The Burrum District Community Men’s Shed expressed their appreciation for the Fraser Coast Regional Council’s ongoing support of not-for-profit community groups.

This backing is instrumental in helping local initiatives thrive and make a meaningful difference in the region.
