THE GOODS Wheel, or as many like to call it ‘The Ambulance Wheel’, will return again for this year’s Christmas Festivities.
The event will run for two weeks from Saturday 16th December to Sunday 31st December 2023 (excluding Christmas Day) at Scarness Park Stage on the Scarness foreshore.
The Hervey Bay Local Ambulance Committee (LAC) continues a tradition that has been providing families much joy for almost 70 years.
Locals and visiting families on holidays have congregated on the Scarness Foreshore for decades.
The Hervey Bay Goods Wheel stands as one of the last public operating wheels in Australia.
Ian from the LAC said the funds raised support the Hervey Bay Local Ambulance Committee in raising funds to purchase additional patient care equipment for our local Ambulance Stations and support the VMR and River Heads First Responders.
This year the LAC have purchased a new vehicle for their River Heads First Responders. Previously the First Responders were using their own private vehicles to respond to emergencies, but now they are able to attend incidents in a dedicated well-equipped vehicle set up for the work they are required to carry out.
The LAC have also purchased Razor Chairs for both of their stations. The Razor Chairs are used to lift bariatric patients.
“This significantly decreases the risk of back injuries to our paramedics,” said Ian Farrell.
“Our paramedics have such physically demanding roles, any help we can provide is important”.
The LAC aim is to purchase more Auxiliary patient care equipment which will provide safe support for patients and staff members.
The Ambulance Wheel is for all ages with tickets remaining at 50 cents each with a chance to win from a range of prizes, including electrical goods, toys, gardening, and kitchen utensils to name a few.
All losing tickets can be placed in the barrel for your chance to win a BBQ – This will be drawn on the last night.
There will be approximately 30 spins each night, with prizes to suit everyone.
The Ambulance Wheel starts Saturday 16th December from 7pm at the Scarness Park Stage with a special visit from Santa Clause on Christmas Eve.
