Nominate A Volunteer Hero
2 min read

VOLUNTEERING in the Fraser Coast is not only a selfless act of service but also a transformative experience that enriches the lives of volunteers and the community alike.

From fostering a sense of belonging and building meaningful relationships to enhancing well-being, acquiring new skills, and making a tangible impact, the benefits of volunteering are manifold and far-reaching.

As residents of Fraser Coast continue to embrace the spirit of volunteerism, they contribute to a more compassionate, resilient, and vibrant community that thrives on the principles of unity, compassion, and solidarity.

In many eyes – they are seen as Heroes!

The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) works with volunteers and the many organisations that are reliant on the volunteers within our community.

Their mission is “to provide a place for people to belong, feel safe and be connected to a community of support. Our programs focus on all community members at any stage of life, including those who are vulnerable or isolated.”

HBNC wishes to recognise the wonderful contribution from community minded people with a new publication that highlights the selfless dedication on their time, energy and expertise that elevates our local community.

In partnership with Volunteering Queensland, they are launching the Fraser Coast Heroes Story Book, telling the stories of local volunteers.

“Volunteers are community heroes, and their passion for making a difference in the community deserves to be acknowledged,” says Operations Manager for HBNC, Christian Berechree.

“That’s what the Fraser Coast Heroes Volunteer Story Book is all about - bringing stories of selfless service together all in one place.”

If you know someone whose selfless efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of others, or perhaps it’s a tireless mentor, a compassionate healthcare worker, or a dedicated environmentalist.

The book provides a platform for the appreciative community and beneficiaries of their service, to nominate their “hero”.

Tanya Stevenson, CEO for HBNC, witnesses the enrichment and benefits to the community of volunteers on a daily basis.

“What is particularly special about this book is it shows the incredible variety of community projects, programs and activities volunteers are involved with,” says Tanya.

“If you are looking to volunteer, there are so many ways to get involved in our community. I encourage community members to reach out to the groups represented in the book, plus many others that can be found on The Little Library -  www.thelittlelibrary.com.au/
