CARINITY Education Glendyne has received a grant of more than $2.5 million to renew the school’s sporting facilities.

The grant was secured under the Go for Gold Fund scheme, which is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government.

Funding of $2.575 million will deliver a much-needed gymnasium and sports education facility for the school in Hervey Bay.

“The grant will fund the replacement of the current gym which was damaged by a severe storm in December 2022 and is no longer able to be used,” Carinity Education Glendyne Principal, Dale Hansen said.

“The new building will provide students access to a range of sports and activities which can be done in all weather conditions, as well as a sports storage area, a classroom for the sport and recreation program, a weights and gymnastics area, and toilets and laundry for students to access.”

The Go for Gold Fund aims to support Queensland schools to encourage and enhance physical activity opportunities for students in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

State Member for Maryborough, Bruce Saunders, said the Queensland Government has committed $100 million over four years to provide sports equipment, and build and upgrade school sports infrastructure.

“The funding received by Glendyne to provide the school with a new gym and sport and recreation classroom will be a welcome addition after the old facilities were damaged,” he said.

The building project at Carinity Education Glendyne is set for completion by December 2025.
